But I Don’t Have a Dad.

To the person without a dad. The one whose dad walked out before he was even born. The one whose father abused her. The one whose father is in prison. The one whose father passed away long before he should have. The one whose father has disowned him. The one whose father never cared to be in his life.

Look up.

“I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” -Psalm 121:1-2

Father’s Day can be a hard day to the one who feels alone. To the one who doesn’t have someone to celebrate with. To the one who is mourning.

Look up.

Jesus said He would be a Father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5, 2 Corinthians 6:18).

He said that when your earthly parents forsake you He will care for you:

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.” -Psalm 27:10

He won’t be just any father, either. Your experience with your earthly father could be a negative one. That is not what Jesus said He would be. In Romans 8:15 we read that we can call Him our Abba Father which means “Daddy”. “Daddy” is a term of endearment. A term of closeness. Of love. He’s everything you’ve ever needed in a father.

And, your Father wants to take care of you! In Matthew 6:8 it says He knows what we need before we even ask! Furthermore, though in Luke 11:13 He is referencing the Holy Spirit, Jesus makes a good point. If earthly fathers (most of them anyway) want to give good things to their kids, how much more would your Heavenly Father–the One who created you–want to give you what you need?

Look up.

Call on Him. Jesus is with you 24/7. He hears your every cry. He sees your every need.

And this Father’s Day and every day He wants to be your Abba Father. Your Daddy.

He loves you.
